The Legacy:
Overall, I hope this website has shown you the ways in which a fantasy book is adapted to a film. The process isn't easy and many people tend to critique adapted films on how well they correlate with the book. I do not believe this to be a fair critique because book writing and screen writing are two entirely different works. Writing for the screen is very difficult because you must show the audience instead of telling them every detail and thought in a character's head. Some changes are necessary to better apply the written story to a visual one, and not every single written detail makes it onto the big screen. With J.K. Rowling having a great deal of creative input on all of the Harry Potter films (she even produced the last two films), I believe the series to be a great success and one of the greatest film series ever made (eight films is impressive). I hope my website has persuaded you to take another look at the fantasy genre, both book and film, and to realize the differences sometimes necessary between the two separate works during adaptation.
- Located in Universal Studios at Orlando, Florida is the Wizarding World of Harry Potter, a large interactive theme park including a Hogwarts castle, a Hogsmeade Village and most recently, Diagon Alley. There are many rides and attractions, and the park is recreated detail by detail of what audiences have seen in the films. There is also a park in Universal Studios Japan and another opening in 2015 in Universal Studios Hollywood.
- J.K. Rowling created Pottermore, a website focusing on the unknown parts of the Harry Potter series and a re-telling of the story in an interactive way. The site includes Rowling's thoughts, several unpublished texts, and many interactive things for fans to do.
- Starkid's A Very Potter Musical can be found at www.teamstarkid.com/avpm.html . This serves as a fan musical about Voldemort returning from the dead to take revenge on Harry and his friends. This is an extension of the story to keep Harry present and occuring today. It is created for the personal enjoyment of those involved in it and for other Harry Potter fans and is no way approved or affiliated with J.K. Rowling. Harry is played by Darren Criss from Glee.
- Harry Potter Fanfiction can be found at https://www.fanfiction.net/book/Harry-Potter/ or http://www.harrypotterfanfiction.com/ . Fanfiction is exactly what it sounds like-new fictional Harry Potter stories written by the fans.
- Die-hard Harry Potter fans can now have a chance to attend something similar to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry at a Polish castle next Spring (2015). It's a Live Action Role Play in which there is a four day session where attendees can take classes such as Defense Against the Dark Arts and Potions, play Quidittich, and even attend a magical ball. - Quidditch is now available to be played on many college campuses as well as in communities. The International Quidditch Association (IQA) allows for the sport to be played all around the world, sets the international ruleset, standards for officiating and snitching the game, the specifications about equipment and facilities, all internal executive regulations, and chooses the host site for international competitions of the sport.
